I see a common problem out there with SharePoint, and it seems there are just a few applications out there that provide the ability to capture scanned documents from copiers or MFPs on the network. Even if you have a handful of documents to scan, going to the copier and scanning all of them, then going back to your desk and uploading them is quite painful. Then you have to open SharePoint Services, WSS, or SharePoint Server, MOSS, and index each column one by one until you have entered all the information you require. PSIGEN PSICapture has a great feature that can really help with the whole “scanning from the copier” thing. The software has the ability to read “roiuting sheets”. These sheets can have a barcode on them that specifies the SharePoint Document Library, and then you can create check boxes to define the type of document, or perhaps the date. Furthermore, you can place multiple documents into the MFP feeder separated by these sheets, scanning them all in one batch. The software reads the file, splits it into individual segments based on the separators, reads the barcode and check boxes, and then automatically routes the document to the SharePoint Server, placing it in the right document library, filling in column information, and oh by the way…it is a fully text searchable PDF. For an overview of how it works, see the video here:

There is also an interactive mode of the software that allows you to enter SharePoint column information through a point-and-click function. It will highlight specific terms on a page, and let you quickly identifiy the SharePoint column information. A video here:
